MySQL Database Administrator
IT – Network Operations Irvine
Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an experienced database administrator to join our Blizzard operations network services (BONS) team in Irvine, California. This position will collaborate with developers in the design and operations of the public-facing and internal database applications that exist at Blizzard. Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and upgrade MySQL database software.
  • Collaborate with development teams on the design and implementation of database services.
  • Manage performance of MySQL deployments and optimize SQL queries.
  • Plan and implement backups and replication.
  • Perform database load testing and benchmarking.
  • Manage day-to-day operations for test and development database instances.
  • Submit service requests to software vendors and drive to resolution.
  • Utilize tools to determine the health of a server and the databases running on it.
  • Support the development teams via email, IM, and in-person communication.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing MySQL backups, replication, upgrades, monitoring, alerting, and tuning in a production-level environment
  • Strong foundation in database concepts such as normalization, indexing, and sharding
  • Experience with Linux and some scripting language (Bash, Python, Perl, etc.)
  • Strong working knowledge of all aspects of MySQL replication
  • Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of MySQL storage engines (MyISAM, InnoDB, Memory and NDB)
  • Experience with MySQL Cluster (NDB)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Able to perform after-hours and / or weekend support for key deployments and on-call responsibilities
  • Experience with MySQL monitoring tools (Enterprise Monitor, Graphite, nagios, etc.)
  • Experience with MySQL NDB Cluster
  • Familiar with automation tools such as Puppet and Ansible
  • Knowledge / experience with newer industry trends (NewSQL, NoSQL, Big Data)
